7.6. Windows/XP with Intel PROSet Supplicant

In this example Windows/XP with Service Pack 2 is used as the operating system. The supplicant is Intel PROSet 7.1.3.2. Note that earlier versions may have problems with authentication.

7.6.1. Import Certificates

Refer to Section 7.5.1, “Import Certificates”.

7.6.2. Authenticate using certificates (EAP-TLS)

  1. Bring up the Intel PROSet dialog.

    1. Control Panel -> Intel PROSet

    2. Select the wireless NIC in the left window

    3. Select the Networks tab in the right window

  2. Configure the wireless network connection

    1. Click on the Add... button.

    2. Step 1 of 3 (General Settings)

      • Profile Name = Fabeltjesland (EAP-TLS)

      • Network name (SSID) = Fabeltjesland

      • Operating Mode = Infrastructure

      • Click Next

    3. Step 2 of 3 (Security, 802.1X)

      • Configure the security settings

        • Network Authentication = WPA

        • Data encryption = TKIP

      • Configure 802.1X settings

        • Authentication Type = TLS

        • Click the Configure button

        • User Name = Barrie Levinson

        • Server Identity

          • Certificate Issuer = Coert Vonk CA

          • Select Domain name must end in specified name

        • Client Certificate

          • Click Select

          • Select the Barrie Levsinson certificate that was installed earlier.

        • Click Close in the original dialog.

      • Click Next

    4. Step 3 of 3 (Misc)

      • Click Finish

  3. Connect using the new profile

    • Move the new profile to the top of the Profiles list

    • Select the new profile and click Connect

7.6.3. Authenticate using username/password (EAP-PEAP)

  1. Bring up the Intel PROSet dialog.

    1. Control Panel -> Intel PROSet

    2. Select the wireless NIC in the left window

    3. Select the Networks tab in the right window

  2. Configure the wireless network connection

    1. Click on the Add... button.

    2. Step 1 of 3 (General Settings)

      • Profile Name = Fabeltjesland (EAP-PEAP)

      • Network name (SSID) = Fabeltjesland

      • Operating Mode = Infrastructure

      • Click Next

    3. Step 2 of 3 (Security, 802.1X)

      • Configure the security settings

        • Network Authentication = WPA

        • Data encryption = TKIP

      • Configure 802.1X settings

        • Authentication Type = PEAP

        • Click the Configure button

        • Mark User credentials username as EAP identify

        • Server Identity

          • Certificate Issuer = Coert Vonk CA

          • Select Domain name must end in specified name

        • Tunneled Authentication

          • Authentication Protocol = MS-CHAP-V2

          • User Credentials = Save User Credentials, and configure these credentials by clicking on Configure

          • Uncheck User Client Certificate (why would you need this?)

        • Click Close in the original dialog.

      • Click Next

    4. Step 3 of 3 (Misc)

      • Click Finish

  3. Connect using the new profile

    • Move the new profile to the top of the Profiles list

    • Select the new profile and click Connect
